On May 1, 2020, two local Stuart businesses supported the local community by
giving away 1200 face masks and bagels for free.
Gary Owen the President of Owen Insurance Group along with several of his staff,
including Tom Bouvier, Julie Scott and Livia Bonet passed out 1200 face masks to
the local community who drove up curbside to get their “goodie bag” which
included 2 face masks, antibacterial hand-sanitizers and mini first aid kits.
Also, Sebastian Gallego the owner of Broadway Bagels assisted in giving out face
masks with his freshly made bagels.
When Gary Owen was asked why he did this, he commented, “In times like these, it
becomes our duty to do all the good we can to all the people we can in any way
we can”. Also, City Manager David Dyess supported the event and City
Commissioner Becky Smith Bruner (along with her grandchildren) assisted in
handing out the bags to all the vehicles passing by.
